HaRav Avigdor Nebenzahl | Rosh HaYeshiva

HaRav Avigdor Nebenzahl

Rosh Yeshiva

HaRav Avigdor Nebenzahl, Shlit”a, in addition to being senior Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivat Netiv Aryeh, is the chief Rabbi of the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem, a position he assumed shortly after the liberation of Jerusalem in 1967. In addition, HaRav Nebenzahl has served as posek for several schools and organizations including Zaka, whose principal responsibility is identification of body parts with the goal of giving them a proper Jewish burial. Unfortunately, in recent years Eretz Yisrael has known many terrorist incidents which involved many tragic losses. As the posek for Zaka, he was often rushed to the scene of such atrocities. Not wishing to waste even a moment of learning time, he was often seen returning to the Beit Midrash still dressed in the yellow Zaka jacket. Having learned in Yeshivot Kol Torah and Ponovezh he developed a close kesher with many gedolei Yisrael. Chief among them was HaGaon HaRav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach zt”l for whom he was considered a talmid muvhak in every sense of the word.

HaRav Nebenzahl spends morning and night sedarim in our Beit Midrash and in addition to being available to answer students’ questions, delivers a weekly sicha which is recorded, transcribed, edited, and sent to a very large subscription list on the internet. In addition, he has hosted students for Shabbat meals and it is considered an honor and a privilege to participate in his Pesach Seder.
